Spirit Led Choices

Sprit Led Choices

In keeping with our current series: Disciplining and Conquering the Sinful Nature of the Flesh, the following is a testimony of how one woman was able, in spite of her feelings, to obey the promptings of the Spirit and make the right choice.

Mara had been Alice’s supervisor for just over a year, and since the beginning there was constant friction between them, caused by Alice’s antagonistic attitude towards Mara and it grew worse with each passing week. To make matters worse, Alice’s job performance had also fallen below par.

The VP called a meeting; here was Mara’s perfect opportunity; one word from Mara and Alice would be fired. So here they were, sitting in the VP’s office trying to get to the bottom of the matter. But as Mara sat there listening to Alice’s “excuses”, she remembered her daily devotion that morning from

Hebrews 3:13: “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

It suddenly occurred to Mara that Alice may have been dealing with some personal problems that influenced her erratic behavior. Mara decided not to follow her emotions and made a Sprit led choice to remain silent during the meeting. Instead of being fired by the VP, Alice was given another chance to improve her performance.

When they left the office, Mara could tell that Alice was surprised at not being fired that morning. But she was even more surprised when Mara put her hand on her shoulder and said, “The day hasn’t started out well, has it? Why don’t you go and get your desk together and let’s have a fresh start. I’m here for you if you need to talk.”

Had Mara followed her emotions, things could have easily gone her way that morning. But Mara made a choice to do the right thing. She chose to show love in spite of an unlovable situation.

Galatians 6:9 states: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
