Star Sprangled Banner-Too Violent?
“And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air; gave proof through the night that our flag was still there!” The Star Spangled Banner is our national anthem but more importantly it is a historically accurate account of how America fought for and won its independence. Yet, there are some that feel our anthem is too violent to be sung because of its images of war. Can you believe this? This is ludicrous, but sadly it is true (http://edujunction.net/2011/05/26/is-the-star-spangled-banner-too-violent/).
Two hundred and thirty five years ago our founding fathers envisioned freedom—and they knew all too well the cost of attaining that freedom. To declare independence was treason and it was punishable by death. America’s birth was not pretty – it was filled with blood, sweat, tears, sacrifice, war and death, but, in the midst of those birth pains, was a story of remarkable courage, bravery, patriotism and triumph.
The Star Sprangled Banner-too violent to sing? If it were not for the fight that our founding fathers put forth and the violence they endured to secure our freedom, who knows where we would all be today!
The freedoms we enjoy and sometimes take for granted, were paid for with the lives of many brave men and women—and they still are today. Singing our story proudly– and truthfully– is the least we can do to honor them.
Happy Birthday America! May God bless the courageous men and women that serve our country through the military and risk their lives to maintain our freedoms.

The history of America is a violent one, what do they expect a lullaby? next they will start to tear away at the constitution and say it is not politically correct or something stupid like that? these people need to go fight a war, so they can know how violent war can be!!
LOL Loswl -so true! BTW, I heard on the news that some are looking to edit the constitution – trying to call it a living document..we’ll see what happens there.
