Fruit of the Spirit Challenge
“You will know them by their fruits” (Matt 7:16). Love, joy, peace, forbearance (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control– these are the fruits of the Spirit as depicted in Galatians 5:22-23. As bible believing Christians redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, the fruits of God’s Spirit reside in all of us. When we sincerely and faithfully live in the Spirit, we will walk in the Spirit and when we walk in the Spirit, these nine fruits become the foundation of our character.
When people look at you, do they see these attributes? If so, to what degree do you embody them? Let’s do a quick self-evaluation.
Do you love in the face of hate?
Are you joyful in spite of undue suffering?
Can you make peace when injustice surrounds you?
Are you patient when nothing goes according to your plan?
Do you repay evil with goodness and kindness?
Are you faithful when forsaken?
Are you gentle when provoked?
When tempted, do you practice self control?
Many of us demonstrate most of these qualities to some extent, but there is always room for growth. Since we’re not perfect, we could all benefit from understanding what it takes to truly exemplify the fruits of the Spirit. As Spirit-filled and Spirit-led children of God, the more we learn to walk in the Spirit, the more we will bear His fruits.
Over the next nine months, W2W Soul (in the tradition of our annual challenge) invites you to work toward further developing these nine attributes. Each month, we will explore one fruit of the Spirit and through self evaluation, prayer, meditation on the scriptures and purposeful actions and activities, we will grow together in Spirit and in Truth. Will you take the challenge?
We will explore the fruits of the Spirit in the order listed in the scripture (Gal. 5:22-23). This means that in March, we will closely look at the fruit of Love and in December, we will close the challenge by examining the fruit of Self Control. In the sidebar of our home page there will be a “Fruit of the Spirit Challenge” section where we will post weekly scriptures for meditation and challenges to carry out that will help us develop these fruits. We pray that you will join us on this journey and look forward to your feedback on the progress you are making.
Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
