Finding and Fulfilling God’s Purpose

God's Glory by INSPIKS

Death really puts life into perspective.  When I lost my Dad a few years ago, the small matters of life that had consumed me up to that time seemed so trivial.  The loss of a parent also puts you right up there at the top of the line.  You realize how fleeting life is and how quickly your own life has gone by.  As natural and painful as death is, when it interrupts your life, it always brings with it a much needed wake-up call– that time is precious and you may be wasting it.

We tend to get bogged down by the inconsequential events of life that only steal our peace.  When all is said and done, they pale in comparison to what really matters – the family and friends that enrich our lives and more important than that – our relationship with God and fulfilling His purpose.

Proverbs 19:21: Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

To truly start fulfilling God’s will for our lives, we must see life the way He sees it, focusing on what really matters and minimizing the din of things that only threaten to veer us off that path. We were all created with a purpose and it is time we start living out the purpose for which we were created.

Colossians 1:16:  For in Him all things were created.  All things have been created through Him and for Him.

Jeremiah 29:11:  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Finding and fulfilling God’s purpose will bring meaning, focus, simplicity and peace to our lives.  Only through prayer and constant intimacy with God can we really start refocusing our life on what is important and obtaining the clarity we seek on His calling for our lives.

Love this article. I agree that death really puts life into perspective. We tend to sweat the small stuff when in the long run it really is of no consequence. I lost a close family member suddenly last year and I think about her life and how she used to worry about so many things. The devil’s way is to steal our time and lead us to think we have time for God later or tomorrow, but death has a way of reminding us to check ourselves. Are we ready to meet Him today?

So true, Kaleb. My Mom died when I was nine. That radically changed my perspective. Shortly after my daughter was diagnosed with a highly malignant brain tumor much like the one that killed my mother, my Dad died. The temporariness of life is very real. Even knowing that, staying focussed on the eternal in the now can be a challenge

Blessings,
Pat

Pat – I am so sorry to hear about he challenges and losses that you have faced. I am encouraged by your strength and faith. You’re right – staying focused on the eternal can be challenging in general when we have to live in these earthly bodies and face the tragedies and trials of life. I am comforted that God will never give us more than we can bear and that He uses the bad things that happen in our lives to bring about good and to accomplish His will in us and through us.
