Bible in One Year Challenge

Last year we initiated a 100 day praise challenge and received amazing participation. For the new year, we have a new challenge that will require a significant commitment over the next 365 days.  Starting on January 10, 2011, we are inviting you all to read the Bible, cover to cover, in one year.

We all agree that the Bible is the blueprint for how we live our faith.  It is the map that steers us in the right direction. Without it, we are lost souls wandering aimlessly in a lost world.  We should spend time in it, daily meditating and cherishing the words of life that it brings.

Joshua 1:8: Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

I was inspired to do this challenge when I recently watched the Book of Eli, a movie about a man (played by Denzel Washington) who risked his life to preserve the one Bible that survived a dying world.  It was precious to him; so precious, that he meditated on it day and night and memorized every single word. Though the book was eventually taken from him, the Word was not lost because it remained imprinted in his heart and mind and as such, he was able to share it with a world that desperately needed it.

Though it’s a new year we still face the same old troubles with new disguises.  It is easy to be deceived, to be lead astray, to be discouraged and sadly, to even turn away from our faith because of the challenges and hardships that will face us.  More than ever, we need to stay in the Word.  There is so much we don’t know because we have not read it—but it is all there and it is freely available to us.  I hope that over the next 365 days, you will join us at W2W Soul in our quest to discover the hidden treasures within the Bible.

As part of our Bible in One Year challenge, W2W Soul will post the required readings every Monday for that week under the “Bible in One Year” section of our homepage. We also intend to share the required readings with our readers via Facebook and Twitter. Attached below is a PDF document with a suggested reading plan obtained from the Into Thy Word*organization with the Bible passages in chronological order.

We know that this is quite an undertaking but we at W2W are committed to reading the Bible in one year. Whether you read the Bible or listen to it, will you join us in taking the challenge?

The Bible in One Year Challenge starts Monday, January 10, 2011

  1. This challenge is really taking me to higher levels in my faith. I’m in the book of Leviticus right now and let me tell you..I am even more thankful for what Jesus did for me on the cross. The Jews in those days had to do so many different sacrifices etc. to atone for sins! I couldn’t imagine if we still had to do all those things. I am so thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ paid for my sins..once and for all!!

This is to bring to your notice that the Bible in one year challenge details is invariably posted late… ie every Tuesday. Besides, the moment the page opens, the details’ column disappears. Why don’t you have it posted on Sunday evening so that we know what has to be read the next day, Monday. It is becoming increasingly difficult to stay aligned with you.

    • Thanks Aruna. I do try to post on Sunday night or first thing Monday morning. You may also download the entire PDF chronological outline at the end of the Bible in One Year Challenge article.

  5. As we close out the year, I hope that many of you participated in the bible challenge. If any of you managed to finish the entire bible–CONGRATS!! and please let us know. At a minimum, the challenge got us reading our bible–I have learned so much this year–I have discovered so many things that I did not know were in the bible and as such my faith has deepened. I confess that I am still in Chronicles but I will continue the challenge and reading my bible on a regular basis.
